What is Reader's Workshop?
- Mini-Lesson (5-15 minutes)
Reader's Workshop begins with a mini-lesson that focuses on reading strategies that students will apply during their reading.
- Reading (40-45 minutes)
After the mini-lesson, students will read independently in order to practice the strategy from the mini-lesson. The students will be writing in their Reading Notebooks as well as completing different tasks.
I will also be meeting with guided reading groups during this time. Each group will be assigned a book that they will discuss with me.
Another component of Reader's Workshop is conferencing. I will meet with individuals or small groups to practice the reading strategy/skill as well as to assess their progress.
- Sharing (5-10 minutes)
At the end of Reader's Workshop, the students will share how they applied the reading strategy from the mini-lesson.

After each novel, students will create an end of the book project to show their understanding of what they have just read. These projects can be completed independently or with a small group. To see some ideas, click the link below.
