Reader's Workshop

Tell me about yourself by taking the Reading Survey.

Check out the novels we will be reading by visiting the Broncho Bookshelf.

What is Reader's Workshop?
  • Mini-Lesson (5-15 minutes)

  • Reader's Workshop begins with a mini-lesson that focuses on reading strategies that students will apply during their reading.
  • Reading (40-45 minutes)

  • After the mini-lesson, students will read independently in order to practice the strategy from the mini-lesson. The students will be writing in their Reading Notebooks as well as completing different tasks.

I will also be meeting with guided reading groups during this time. Each group will be assigned a book that they will discuss with me.

Another component of Reader's Workshop is conferencing. I will meet with individuals or small groups to practice the reading strategy/skill as well as to assess their progress.
  • Sharing (5-10 minutes)

  • At the end of Reader's Workshop, the students will share how they applied the reading strategy from the mini-lesson.
After each novel, students will create an end of the book project to show their understanding of what they have just read. These projects can be completed independently or with a small group. To see some ideas, click the link below.
