1. Review the definition and types of adjectives by clicking here.

2. Visit online menus. While looking at each menu, identify the different types of adjectives used by filling out the Identifying Adjectives Sheet. After examining the menus, fill out the Evaluating Menus Sheet to share your opinions on what you liked and disliked.

Visit these online menus:
3. With your partner, decide on the theme (Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafe are examples) of your establishment.

4. Figure out what food items you will be serving. Each chef will be responsible for six food items. The food choices should compliment your restaurant's theme. When you have made your choices regarding the menu, each chef should fill out the Food Webs Sheet.

To gather ideas, check out these themed restaurants' menus:

5. Write a short description of each food item by filling out the Food Descriptions Sheet. Remember that your word choice will determine if people will order the food or come back to your restaurant.

Use the following sites to improve your word choices:

6. Create a rough draft of your menu. You need to have at least 12 items with descriptions and illustrations. Since this is only a rough draft, this does not need to be your best work. This is just to help you plan out how your menu will look. When you and your partner are finished, revise and edit the menu. Then, find two other people to edit your menu.

7. After the revising and editing processes have been completed, it is time to make your own menu. You will create your final copy with illustrations on the paper that your teacher gives you. You must identify the adjectives you use. This can be done by putting the adjectives in a color other than the rest of the text. If you have a different idea that you would like to use, ask your teacher. Numerous people will be coming to your restaurant. You want to make sure that your menu is perfect!
