Holes Activities Menu

You must complete one of the following activities for this novel. You can choose whichever prompt that you would like. This activity is due at the completion of this novel study.

Stanley’s Portrait
Complete a “characterization” drawing of Stanely. Place 4 ideas coming out of his brain, 3 visions or hopes coming out of his eyes, 3 feelings coming out of his heart, 3 strengths coming out of his hand, 3 important things he did coming out of the other hand, and 3 weaknesses coming out of his foot.

Yellow-Spotted Lizards
Using the descriptions from the book, draw or create (using modeling clay) a “yellow-spotted” lizard. These lizards only exist in fiction. However, there are many types of lizards that can be found around the world. Research lizards to find out some interesting facts using the Internet, encyclopedia, or books. Write a paragraph or two about the information you have discovered.

Camp Green Lake
You have been hired to run Camp Green Lake, a facility to help juvenile delinquents get the help they need in order to become responsible citizens. You will need to create a map/layout of your facility, a mission statement, a list of jobs with descriptions for the participants, and explain how you will incorporate character building.

Kissin' Kate
Kissin' Kate plays an important role in the novel. Your job is to create an old wanted poster (see handout and Internet links) for her that includes information from the text and a reward. You will also need to write an obituary for her (see handout).

Guilty or Innocent?
Do you think Stanley is guilty or innocent? Choose to be the prosecutor (the person trying to convince the judge/jury Stanley is guilty) or the defender (the person trying to convince the judge/jury that Stanley is innocent). Prepare a persuasive argument for your position. If you have provided evidence, that is even better!
