The Boy Who Saved Baseball Activities Menu
You must complete one of the following activities for this novel. You can choose whichever prompt that you would like. This activity is due at the completion of this novel study.
Baseball Cards
You have just been hired by the team to design their baseball cards. You will need to create six baseball cards based on the Wildcats’ team members or citizens of Dillontown. On each card (one half sheet of looseleaf), you will draw a colorful picture of each character on one side. Instead of listing the statistics for each player on the back, you will list his/her character traits with examples from the text.
The Secret of Hitting Book
A publisher has hired you to create a children’s book that explains the secret of hitting. Your book must be at least 10 pages and you also need to illustrations.
Dreamsketcher
Tom used his Dreamsketcher to write down his thoughts (reread p. 17-18 on a description of the Dreamsketcher). Whenever his mind drifted off someplace interesting, he’d draw what he saw or jot a thought into his book. Pretend that you are Tom. Write/draw at least 15 entries that could be found in his Dreamsketcher. You should include information from the text that was read during the novel as well as using your own information to fill in the blanks regarding material that was not read. This could also include what happened after the story ended. The journal entries should include the innermost thoughts of the character. Remember that you are writing the entries from Tom’s point of view.
HitSim
Cruz de la Cruz and Tom Gallagher developed a hitting simulation game that the team used to practice with. Create the box that the game comes in. You should include the title of the game, a picture, a description, instructions, and at least 1 review from a member of the Dillontown Wildcats. You may also include any other pertinent information.
